About Dr Steve Tangney

Steve is a principal dentist and co-owner of Tidy Tooth Dental, and he leads the practice in digital dentistry. Using advanced CEREC technology, he designs and crafts crowns, bridges and implant restorations in a single visit, which means fewer appointments and less time off work for patients.

Originally from Ireland, Steve graduated with honours from University College Cork in 2008 and completed his Certificate in Aesthetic Dentistry in London. Early in his career he was recommended for the UK Young Dentist of the Year Award, and he has since built a reputation for high-quality, future-focused dentistry. He also completed the Masters of CEREC program in Sydney, keeping same-day dentistry on the South Coast at the front of the field.

For full-arch implant treatment (All-on-4™), Steve partners with Dr Barry Phelan of NextSmile Australia. Surgical treatment is performed in Wollongong, while all consultations, restorative work and ongoing care are managed locally by the Tidy Tooth team — so patients get access to leading surgical expertise without losing the comfort of local care.

Steve is also passionate about mentoring and education. He regularly runs in-house training for clinicians across the group and has lectured internationally, helping younger dentists build the confidence and skills that high-quality private practice asks for. Backed by a close-knit team of dentists, hygienists and oral health therapists, his goal is a simple one: to make high-level dentistry feel accessible, honest and genuinely supportive, whether you are here for a routine check-up or a life-changing smile transformation.

Outside the clinic

Steve moved to Australia in 2011 and, after several years in Queensland, set down roots on the South Coast with his wife Chloe in 2017. Together they are raising three young kids and making the most of coastal life — you will often spot him out early walking the dogs, running along the beach or sneaking in a round of golf. He is also a passionate local soccer player and captain of the Broulee team, which he led to five consecutive premierships from 2019 to 2023. The same focus and leadership he brings to the field shows up in how he cares for patients: calm under pressure, detail-driven, and always backing his team.
