Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth assessment and gentle removal for teens and adults. From panoramic X-ray assessment through to comfortable removal and aftercare, Tidy Tooth Dental helps you deal with problem wisdom teeth close to home.

Wisdom teeth usually arrive between the late teens and mid-twenties — and for many people, there simply isn't room for them. When they push through at an angle, get stuck against neighbouring teeth, or become repeatedly infected, removal is often the healthiest choice.

Signs your wisdom teeth may need attention

  • Pain or pressure at the back of your mouth
  • Swollen, tender, or bleeding gums around a partly-erupted tooth
  • Repeated infections or a bad taste from the area
  • Jaw stiffness or difficulty opening fully
  • Crowding or pressure against neighbouring teeth

Removal options tailored to you

At Tidy Tooth, we assess every case individually and can help you understand whether your wisdom teeth are best monitored or removed. If removal is recommended, we'll talk you through your options and create a plan based on the position and complexity of your teeth.

Many wisdom teeth can be removed comfortably under local anaesthetic, meaning you're awake throughout the procedure. If you'd prefer not to be awake and aware of the treatment, IV sedation may also be an option for suitable patients. This allows you to be in a deeply relaxed, sleepy state during your procedure and wake up once your wisdom teeth removal is complete.

For more complex wisdom teeth and extractions requiring IV sedation, we can arrange treatment locally at Tidy Tooth Dental Batemans Bay with our visiting dentist, Dr Colm Galvin. Wisdom teeth removal and complex extractions under IV sedation are a key focus of Dr Colm's work, allowing us to provide more complex treatment closer to home.

Your IV sedation is administered and closely monitored by an experienced anaesthetic doctor who works exclusively with dental IV sedation, while Dr Colm performs your procedure.

Whether your wisdom teeth can be monitored, removed under local anaesthetic, or require more complex treatment under IV sedation, we'll explain your options clearly so you can make an informed decision about what's right for you.

Timing matters

Wisdom teeth are generally easier to remove — with faster recovery — in the late teens and early twenties, before the roots fully develop. If you or your teenager are due for an assessment, school and uni holidays are a popular time to plan removal around a few days of rest.
