The Power of Prevention: Meet the Team Behind Your Check-Up

Tidy Tooth Dental oral health therapists providing preventive care

Anna-Liisa, Zoe, Mayomi and Mickayla — our oral health therapists — focus on early intervention, education and personalised care to stop dental problems before they become bigger ones.

They're an essential part of the Tidy Tooth team: skilled, caring and brilliant with patients, they help make every visit comfortable. Your regular six-monthly check-up and clean will often be with one of them, working closely with your dentist to keep your smile healthy.

What is an oral health therapist?

An oral health therapist (OHT) is a university-qualified clinician who specialises in preventive care and treating early disease — cleans, gum health, fluoride, fissure sealants, and general dentistry for children and teens. Think of them as the team members whose whole job is keeping you out of the dentist's chair for anything major.

What preventive care actually involves

  • Regular examinations — spotting decay, gum changes and wear while they're small and simple to treat.
  • Professional cleans — removing calculus you can't brush off, with gentle Airflow technology (see why cleans matter).
  • Fluoride treatments — strengthening enamel, especially for kids and anyone prone to decay.
  • Fissure sealants — a thin protective coating on the deep grooves of children's molars, where most early cavities start.
  • Custom mouthguards — for footy, netball, surfing and anything else that puts front teeth at risk.
  • Personalised coaching — the brushing spots you're missing, the right tools for your mouth, and how diet affects your teeth.

Why it works

Almost every expensive dental problem started as a small one. A cavity caught at a check-up is a filling; caught two years later it may be a root canal and a crown. Gum disease caught early is reversible; caught late it costs teeth. Prevention isn't just healthier — it's the cheapest dentistry there is.

Kids and families

Our OHTs see a lot of children, and they're very good at making the first few visits easy and even fun. Eligible children may be covered under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule — ask our team when you book. Read more about children's dentistry.
